Well D (and bros.), the D/FW Panthers showed us no mercy either in our third shutout of the season (47-0) Sat. Like the SoCal game, the sweltering heat on the field and turnovers (5) were our most significant opponents (even I had to sit thru half of the game). One of our guys was near heat stroke, and was taken immediately out of the game. Our team looked like the team from “The Replacements” movie, as the staff had to convert a fullback and defensive back to quarterback the offense. Yet Kovar (TCSD) and Ramon (24B) filled in admirably to keep the Panther D honest. (I later found out Ramon was a HS QB.) Determined not to give up or give in, the Wolf Pack O sustained a 6-minute, 50-yard march midway in the fourth period, the longest time our offense was on the field this season; but it climaxed in that last turnover (a fumble), with the Panther O taking over inside their 10 yard line. In matter of fact, three of the five turnovers were deep in Panther territory (Flames, again does this sound familiar?!).
I do want to complement the Panther organization for acquiring the best state-of-the-art athletic complex we ever played in, and any visiting football team will envy! The Birdville ISD complex was a pro football-designed complex (minus the luxury suites) that I never imagined a high school district could even afford! I also want to give a standing ovation to the handful of fans and supporters who weathered the heat! The 2006 season climaxes next Sat., as we the D/FW MetroStars back in the Big D/FW area. Go ‘Pack!
Well bros., it is overcast this morning, and I sure wished it was the same yesterday, as the near-90 degree heat, plus penalties, were Pack ‘anomalies’ in a close 12-7 loss to the SoCal Blue Knights.
The Wolf Pack bench was livid when we scored on our first possession. (Our very first score and lead, y’all! Shuckens!!) SoCal scored on its third possession, but The Pack front blocked the ensuing extra point. An APD officer-teammate picked up the loose ball and was steps away from converting that extra point into a two-point lead. By this time the heat on the field was affecting both teams. Yet SoCal mounted up and took the lead on another score midway in the 2nd Quarter, but The Pack unit once again came thru by snuffing the two-point conversion. The second half opened with The Pack O unable to move the ball; but the SoCal O put up 3 first downs. However, from that point onward was a defensive struggle and penalty-filled. After the game, the SoCal club adamantly expressed their appreciation of the hospitality received during their visit. Our locker room was solemn, as if we knew we let a potential win slip thru our fingers. What also was disheartening was seeing our two prime QBs with shoulder problems (one had an ice pack, but the other had a shoulder splint). But knowing those two, they’ll eventually bounce back, because they’re tough!
The day was climaxed with the post-game afterparty at Opal Devine’s Freehouse (a sponsor) on W. 6th St. Once again, like the one NYPD did for us, there was plenty of food, fun, and fellowship! (Deepest appreciation to (Officer) “Baby Ruth” Bullock, her assistants, APD, and all other coordinators involved for the hard work in getting all of this together!) To Bobby and all other former Flames players, I do want you all to know that one of the SoCal players (a Bro.) recalled the 1992 Flames-Centurions game! I did not ask him how long he’s been with SoCal, nor embarrass him with same of why he no longer plays for LAPD; but I did leave a message for him to give to LAPD that I will be coming for their ass REAL SOON!!
The Wolf Pack’s next 3 games (one an Arena game) are all in Dallas.
Well folks, NYPD crucified us also. Overall, the trip there was fantastic. We had nonstop flights going and coming; hardly in turbulence encountered in same. Our hotel was a 1-1/2 blocks from Ground Zero. NYPD also chauffered us the entire time, and catered us on 2 meals (Friday dinner and post-game afterparty). Fellowship, fellowship, fellowship! Now that we're back, we will prepare for Southern Cal Blue Knights in two weeks. They are 2-1, but we hope to pull off our 1st victory here! Officially this is our last home game of the season, so it'd be nice if any and all can take the time to come out - not just for the team, but to support the children we sponsor. The team will also have a garage sale; stay tuned for this.
P. S. Did any of you check us out in last Thursday's Sports section of AAS?
Thanks D! Though Houston 'gave us a big, hearty welcome' into the League, we will bounce back. This Sat.'s game against the MetroStars has been canceled; so we will prepare for our visit in the Big Apple vs. NYPD Finest, the 2005 NPSFL champs.
The Central Texas Wolf Pack, the public safety full-contact football wing of the Central Texas Public Safety Sports Organization, will kickoff its inaugural season this Saturday, March 18th, 1 pm at Kuempel Field (Pflugerville HS), vs. the Houston Gunners. The team, a member of the National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL), play teams from across the nation to raise funds for local youth. At almost 20%, the majority of the team's players are Austin FD personnel, with 1/5 being in the AAAFFA.
Feel free to check out the team at www.centraltexaswolfpack.com for team info and upcoming schedule/games. Your support will be greatly appreciated - and GO 'PACK!!!!!
